Do anyone know if the herb Chicory is alkalic?

In latin it will be "Cichorium intybus" it comes with blue flower and it is usual to use the root, rost it in the owen, and then make a hot drint from it that can be like a coffee replacement?
It is bitter and has an healing effect on liver, gallbladder and urinary tract. It also has a very nice effect on the whole digestion. I love it, and would be sad if it turn out to have an acid effect on the body. :(

Hi Miramir,

I have just tried to find some information about the alkalinity of the root of chicory, however could not find anything.

The leaves of chicory which are widely used as lettuce should be alkaline, as it should fall in the same category as endive and cabbage lettuce in Dr Young's food pH charts.

I will try to find out more information about it and let you know once I have found out more about it.

Regards,

Bibi

I'm not sure Confused . I would count it toward your 20% acidic food until you know for sure. It sounds like it is one of those healthy acidic foods that should stay in the diet. I still drink Kefir and fermented veggies because they are so good for you. I just count it toward my 20% and fill the rest of my diet with alkaline.
