Hi,

I am not really alkalising to lose weight alone...
- but having given up a 10 year smoking habit in January I have put on over a stone in weight

I suppose I assumed an alkalising diet alone would be enough, but it isn't is it?

I have never really exercised very much.. I work long days in front of a computer and to be honest I don't get a lot of time to exercise... but i bought a wii fit and use that now and then... so maybe I should step up on the amount I use it.

Nevertheless I'm really confused as (most days) I am eating only fruit until around 2pm - 3pm and then I often have a nice green-based vege soup - made according to how I feel... always lots of greens in it + all the standard onions, garlic, celery, cu***ber etc etc sometimes I change it by adding tomatoes and chilli and maybe carrots, leeks etc etc... but always good stuff. Then, if I feel that I need something more substantial (like yesterday) I had a quorn chicken-style fillet, oven chips and stir-fried veg's fried in chilli-infused olive oil.... however... then, unusually... I felt like I wanted food again... this happens about twice a week or so... and I made a late evening smoothie again this time including a banana (which i only ever do later in the day)

Above is a typical day where I have eaten too much... most days I'm happy with just the fruit and then the soup...

Some evening meals are followed with a cup of tea and either a banana or a mini chocolate bar (if I really cannot cope without chocolate) - bear in mind I used to eat chocolate every single day - now its maybe 2 or 3 days max, and I go for a mini bar or a gluton-free cake or choc - not sure if including gluton-free helps, but I thought it might.

I am definitely not gaining weight any more and I have only just started this new lifestyle and I am definitely taking the softly-does-it approach... adjusting slowly from a typically bad western diet to alkalising.. and will expect to mainatian the 80/20 rule eventually - or at least thats my aim. Some days are definitely 90/10.

1 evening a week I go out and I usually drink... I now drink about 1/2 of what i used to have... but it can be bacardi and cokes... I decided not to change this just yet - not for any other reason than i am changing one major thing a month... and first its my meals, shopping, and knowledge of alkalising.

But I am obviously doing something wrong if I am not losing weight - is it obvious to you what this may be.

Does the body take some time to adjust and start shedding fat or could it be that even though I include very little (in comparison) of the wrong stuff... its still not enough ??

Thank you in advance of your help...

Faye :(

List the foods you eat on a typical day, that would help a lot more.

Weight loss is just a simple process of burning more calories than you eat. If you work out how many calories are in a typical day for you, it'll be easier to determine what the cause of your weight retention is.

I also found some information on a website which lists how many calories you burn a minute on average from walking. (http://fitness.families.com/blog/how-many-calories-do-you-burn-while-walking)

* 130 to 140 pounds - 3.5 calories burned per minute (105 calories for 30 minutes)
* 145 to 155 pounds - 4.0 calories burned per minute (120 calories for 30 minutes)
* 160 to 170 pounds - 4.5 calories burned per minute (135 calories for 30 minutes)
* 175 to 185 pounds - 5.0 calories burned per minute (150 calories for 30 minutes)
* 190 to 200 pounds - 5.5 calories burned per minute (165 calories for 30 minutes)

Just burn more than you eat :).

Regards,

George.

Hi Faye,

I know that it can be so frustrating if you want to lose weight, but it does not really happen.

The foods you list below do not sound too bad at all. I would however say that it might be good to cut out fruits more, as most of the are really high in sugar. Especially bananas contain very high sugar levels. It is better to eat low-sugar fruits like g****fruits or occassionally berries.

The other important point is that regular exercise is extremely important in becoming more alkaline and also in order to lose weight. Apart from the nutritional side and regular exercises, the emotional state is also very important. A lot of stress and negative emotions can affect your body's delicate biochemistry and acid/alkaline balance, which in turn can have a profound effect on your weight.

Overall I would probably recommend to you to read Dr Young's fabulous book called 'The pH Miracle for Weight Loss' book. In this book he explains how reaching your ideal weight is a matter of maintaining the delicate ph balance of the blood. He also offers in there a simple 7-step lifestyle program to balance your body chemistry, the dietary dos and donts and a detailed exercise plan.

You can look at it here: http://www.energiseforlife.com/item--The-pH-Miracle-for-Weight-Loss-book--PH_MIRACLE_WEIGHT.html

I hope this info helps you a bit!

Cheers

Bibi

Thanks Bibi,

I think I just may have been slightly overdoing the fruit and maybe not being quite as good as I thought...

Jet has suggested a forum diet for say 12 weeks, and I'm going to start mine today and do***ent everything ... then, if its all going wrong I should be able to see why.

Its great that you and Ross pop in to see if you can help... thank you :)

please join me faye!!!!

I know the chocolate challenge...it is soooooo hard. I give in alot but its the one thing that I'm not going to beat myself up over. Im going to phase it out. I only eat about 1/4 of what I used to and buy mini bars too, or my husband likes rum and raisin and I HATE it so I buy that, yet some crazy thing in my mind thinks Ive bought chocolate. I've started to substitute it with hummus on celery and I actaully really like that a whole lot better. ( so I keep telling myself LOL)

My sister in law put on heaps of weight too when she quit, she used to smoke instead of eat I guess.
I was a sport fanatic when I was younger and I still eat the same but do nothing...habit.... it ****s.

please please join me ! and good luck

Ohh if you want to read an extract of dr youngs book sick and tired...heres the link I think it has 99 pages...go straight to the avoid and include part.... it tells you for 8-12weeks to eat veges for breakfast lunch and tea and what types etc...
