What is alkalising: the core guidelines
FIVE SIMPLE RULES TO START ALKALISING RIGHT NOW:
Eat alkaline foods: dark green vegetables, salads, low sugar fruits, pulses, nuts and sprouts. There are masses of alkalising foods out there but greens are the kings of alkaline. Think spinach, broccoli, lettuce, watercress, rocket (roquette), kale, green beans, green peppers and cucumber. They are the most rich in phytonutrients, chlorophyll, vitamins, alkaline salts, fibre and alkaline minerals.
Aim for a 70/30 alkaline to acid ratio: I remember when I first started out on this approach I was aiming for 100% alkaline thinking this was the way you had to go and it was SO hard. I tried and failed and tried and failed. The day I discovered that it was a 70/30 ratio my whole outlook changed!
Fruit in general should be minimised:sugar is the such a highly acidifying substance and fruit is, unfortunately, full of it (see more of an explanation here). While it does contain lots of good stuff, the damage caused by the fruit does undo this. So apart from low-sugar fruit (avocado, lemon, lime, tomato, grapefruit) you should try to minimise your consumption of other fruit. p.s. but remember - fruit as a sugar hit/treat is still better than chocolate, sweets or refined foods.
Avoid highly acidic food and drink: cola, chocolate, dairy, sugar, sweets, refined foods, ready meals, tobacco, alcohol, yeast, cheese, meat, saturated fats, trans fats, white rice and pasta, simple carbohydrates, bread, coffee, tea (not herbal), artificial sweeteners, vinegar, condiments, table salt, chips, take-away's, biscuits etc. - all of the things you KNOW are bad for you already!
Stay well hydrated: To become alkaline it is essential to drink at least 3 litres of clean, quality, alkaline water every day.
If you follow these 5 simple rules then you will be 90% of the way there. It really is as simple as that to understand.
