| Calendula has been used for centuries for its mild soothing, healing properties and helps protect the hair and scalp for all the family, even babies delicate hair. The Calendula used is organically cultivated in Weleda’s own gardens. Care of the hair must be differentiated from simply washing and conditioning, for the health of the hair is intimately liked with the health of the scalp. This is skin which needs special care, particularly in relation to the blood and lymph circulation. These are carriers of the nutritional elements upon which the growth and the quality (health) of the hair depends. All the well known hair problems, such as over-greasy hair, dandruff, hair loss and splitting and breaking hair can be traced to imbalances in the three layers of skin found in the scalp. The products we use to care for this scalp skin should, therefore, ideally aim to encourage the restoration and maintenance of the delicate balance between these layers. As with Weleda’s skin care products, a large percentage of natural aromatic essential oils is used. In the hair care products, these oils stimulate the blood and lymph flow to the scalp which increases the flow of nutrients to the hair follicles, oxygenates the skin and helps it carry out its functions of excretion and temperature control in a more balanced way. Weleda have been manufacturing health care products since 1921 and a wide range of cruelty free skincare and bodycare products have also been developed during this time. Weleda grows its own plants organically and biodynamically, although they are not labelled ‘organic’ as they also contain mineral ingredients which cannot be labeled organic as they are not cultivated. Also pure essential oils used act not only as natural fragrances but also as natural preservatives. A conscious responsibility towards the environment underlies every detail of operation, from the biodynamic raising of plants to the recyclable packaging of the end product. |
