What type of juicers are available?
Masticating Juicers: These juicers work generally at a slower speed and effectively "chew" the vegetable up, releasing more nutrients from the cell walls and have been shown to produce juice with a higher nutritional content, and to incorporate less oxygen, giving a longer shelf life. Masticating juicers work at a slower speed than centrifugal juicers. For this reason they are a lot quieter in operation.Because they operate a slower speeds when compared to centrifugal juicers masticating juicers produce juice that has less air trapped in it. This means that the juice can be kept slightly longer before oxidisation takes place. Oxidation can be seen to be taking place in apple juice when the juice turns brown due to the oxidising process
Centrifugal Juicers: Centrifugal juicers are based around a spinning basket that has fine holes in its side walls like a very fine sieve. This basket is spun round at a high speed creating a centrifugal force which causes anything within the basket to be forced against the basket sides. This centrifugal force can be compared to a washing machine spin cycle. Centrifugal juicers work by feeding the chopped up fruit and vegetables through a chute onto a spinning basket that grates / chops the fruit / vegetable when it comes into contact with the baskets grating base. This grating process releases juice from the plant cells. The spinning action of the basket creates a centrifugal force and the pulp is collects against the basket walls. The juice is also forced to the walls of the basket by the centrifugal force but it passes through the tiny holes in the basket walls and out of the juice ejection spout of the juice
Manual Juicers: Perfect for travelling or in the home kitchen, with a turn of your hand you can also juice soft fruits and vegetables, berries, barley grass and leafy greens. Takes up less space in the kitchen than most electric powered juicers. Remember 30ml of wheatgrass is the equivalent of 1kg of green vegetables!
Twin Gear Juicers: Twin gear juicers are the juicing pinnacle, they are ultra precise and get the most juice out of your fruit and vegetables. They excel at leafy greens and especially wheatgrass
Citrus Juicers: Citrus Juicers vary from normal juicers in the fact that they are designed specifically for juicing citrus fruits – oranges, grapefruits, limes and lemons
