Hi everyone
Many thanks to all of the people who have been emailing me to let me know that the 10 Most Popular Posts feature is a bit broken. It is showing more than one entry for a few posts and therefore is only giving about 5 of the most popular posts.
So I am going to replace it, with something a little more manual for me but a lot more useful for you. The shortfalls of the current tool are:
- It is clearly unreliable
- It is a bit of a rich get richer type tool - i.e. the most popular posts historically get more and more hits and therefore keep their place in the top 10 - whereas wildly popular but newer posts such as the post about acidosis are never going to catch up.
So - my plan is this: I am going to use the analytics provided by performancing to manually extract the following data:
- A Top five post list for the current week
- and - a top five posts of all time
The aim of these type of lists is to give you access to the most important posts in the archive as well as show what is hot right now - so this new tool will hopefully give you both.
I will update it weekly, after the THDBR.
Let me know if you have got a better (less manual) solution!
