THDBR

OK - Thursday Health & Diet Blog Round-up is here again. In case you are new to the Energise blog, the THDBR is my weekly roundup of posts from other health blogs that have interested me, caught my eye or explained something better than I ever could.

In short, it is my way of saving you some time. Think of it as a gift (there is no better gift than the gift of time eh? heh heh)

So here it is:

  • Firstly - The Bouncing for Breast Cancer tour came to Australia a couple of weeks ago which gave me the opportunity to (finally) meet Priscilla face-to-face and have a bounce! Read all about it here and check this photo of me bouncing over Sydney Harbour Bridge! It really was great to finally meet Priscilla & Christoph - and definitely one of my highlights as a blogger - I still think it is amazing that blogging has put me in touch with so many fantastic people.
  • A new blog I came across this week (thanks Joanne) called Getcha Grub On points us to this article in the NY Times showing that ‘Unions representing thousands of staff scientists say the agency is ignoring sound science in allowing a group of toxic chemicals to be used in agricultural pesticides.’ Scary Stuff.
  • In fact - I’ve gotta give a second shout out to Joanne’s Nourishing Meme post. This is great and is another very effective show of the connectivity between us all as bloggers in one big community. If you haven’t got involved in this - do it now - and pass it on! And if you are one of the bloggers I requested to have a go and haven’t….then shame on you!!! Heh heh.
  • Steve Pavlina posts another barnstormer this week about why he became vegan. Not only is this a great read from the ‘interesting personal viewpoint’ perspective, but Steve does what all good bloggers should do - he litters his post with links to exceptionally interesting articles. Good job Steve.
  • Veggie Chic give us a nice concise rundown of why eating veggies can do the world of good if you are diabetic.
  • And Dr. Bill Bailey (no, not this Bill Bailey - I think…!) - has given a nice post about the effect of having an imbalanced omega oil intake.
  • …and on a fitness front - Gary has posted the kind of post I love: one that shows he is as geeky about stats and tests as I am. This really is the sort of detail you need to go into if you are serious about improving your performance as a runner. I love it. Refer to this post to learn more about heart rate monitoring. Your heart rate really is a great indicator of progress.
  • At Diet-Blog, Jim lets us know about the brave decision that has come out of Spain which bans ’skinny’ models from their catwalks. It’s too early to know how much cut-through this is actually going to have - but bravo to them!
  • And finally, Karen has posted some photos of her Raw Coach & Raw Chef Photo Shoot - just going to show all of those small minded skeptics that going raw/veggie/vegan does not make you unhealthy-looking and washed-out. In fact, I would say she is looking quite the opposite!

And that’s it! Wow - it was a bumper edition this week! Have a great weekend everyone, and happy reading…
