Having just realised that my last two posts have been ’round-ups’ of other peoples work I realised that I had better get some real, useful thoughts of my own up quick sharp! I hope that this post fits the bill!
TOP 5 ALKALINE CLEANSE TIPS
Quick Alkaline Cleanse Intro For Beginners
A ‘cleanse’ as it is known in the alkaline diet circles is the process of cleansing your body of toxins, whilst simultaneously flooding it with an abundance of nutrients.
It differs from other typical detox programs in that it is not restrictive to a small amount of ingredients and that the focus is on supplying your body with a huge amount of alkaline foods, nutrients, minerals, vitamins etc which gives it the tools to heal itself and flush your system. Many other detox programs restrict your food and drink intake in the hope that if you put very little in, your body will empty out its toxins.
Some good adjectives I have heard to describe a cleanse include:
- a liquid feast
- an internal shower
- diet of abundance
Althought those adjectives are a bit, erm, well…a bit OTT – I think what I am trying to get at is that the most important thing to remember is that a cleanse is not a fast! It is the opposite of a fast!
Top Five Tips for a Successful Cleanse
- Plan, plan and then plan some more!
If there is one thing that I have learned from doing cleanses, both successful and unsuccessful, is that without proper planning it simply will not happen. The first thing to plan is when you are going to cleanse. Make sure you have not got any social engagemenets as these always throw a spanner in the works. Tell people you are busy and broke for the next week!
The next thing to plan, and this requires some careful consideration is what you plan to eat, every single day – then you can shop for those specifics. Not having ingredients and running out of meal ideas is the downfall of many-a-cleanse.
- Make more food than you think you will ever need!
Hunger kills 8 out of 10 cleanse attempts. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of that fact, but it is very likely to be true. People often experience intense hunger when cleansing because they do not consume enough! They also often think that this is a detox symptom, when in reality it is just that they need a snack!
Make lots and lots of soups, make double the amount of juice, make sure you can eat whenever you are hungry. Although you should plan your set meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper) so that you can plan which recipes you are going to prepare on which days – do not think of these meals in their traditional sense. Just eat when you are hungry!
A large part of this is to make sure you have always got food available to eat.
-
Vary your soups and juices!
This is a big one too. It is really tempting to just stick to one or two different types of juice or soup, but variety here is so important. Not only will it keep your taste buds on the edge of their seats (meaning you won’t get bored of your food), but you will also get a good range of nutrients and minerals etc.
- Buy Capsule Versions of Supplements:
Although this seems like a pain, it can actually be a cleanse-saver! Supplementation on a cleanse is absolutely vital, and having capsules as well as normal versions of supplements means that when you are out and about you can easily keep up with your supplementation. It also means that you can slightly up your intake of greens without having to drink another litre of water! The trick with this tip is as it is with all of them and that is – there will be a lot of obstacles and moments that will make you consider giving up your cleanse, by doing these things you are taking control of the factors that you can influence and maximising your chances of success!
- Set Goals, Get Clear and Reward Yourself:
Doing a cleanse, as I have already mentioned, is bloody hard work. If you are not clear on why you are doing it, and what it will mean to you to complete it then you are facing an uphill battle. Before you start set yourself goals and write down all of the reasons why you MUST complete the cleanse. Get clarity – what benefits will you get from completing the cleanse? What will you lose out on, or what negative impact will it have on your life if you do not complete the cleanse? This simple, fifteen minute exercise will dramatically increase your chances of success. Also, do not forget to reward yourself along the way – after every meal and at the end of every day give yourself a great big pat on the back and bask in the glory of your success!
Thats about it! Of course, a trip to a nutritionally aware health retreat or spa certainly helps!
If you are about to do a cleanse, or if you have done one in the past it would be great to hear from you and learn about your experiences! Post a comment below!

This post inspires me to finally stop living the life I am and start my weight loss journey, thank you.
This article gets a thumbs way up from me.
G’day Ross,
Aussie Sue in Spain here, I bought one of your Chanson Alkalisers last year and I love the water! At work we have a reverse osmosis water filter system and I really hate it when I forget to take my water from home because I can really taste the difference, alkaline water is much more drinkable!
Anyway I have arranged to work from home next week (taking advantage of the Easter days off) and this means I will have 9 clear days at home and no other commitments – SO, I thought this is a good opportunity to do a 10 day juice fast. I just reread your liver cleanse recipe and it sounds good, would you recommend this as a start off point for my cleanse? How often should it be taken, or only the once?
Loved the Hungry for Change movie, will try and watch it again tomorrow, thanks for the link!
Take care,
Sue
would loe to check out your site but the annoying little bar for sharing/liking is right in the middle of the articles and I can’t get it to go away.
Hey Susan
I’m gonna get to the bottom of it. Trouble is – I don’t see it on my laptop (Macbook Pro on Google Chrome) so am going to fire up a PC and test on FireFox, IE, Safari etc til I can understand what everyone is talkin’ ’bout!
Ross
It’s from the size of her screen. If you grab your browser and drag it so it only takes up the left side of the screen(like you do when toggling browsers), you will see that the side bar suddenly overlays the rest of the website.
I am looking at some supplements like you mention, but do you have any recommendations? I’ve been thinking about Murad Skin Clarifying Supplement, Now Liver Detoxifier, or Himalaya Liver Cleaners. They all seem to have completely different herbal ingredients besides grape seed. What if I just took them all? lol They seem to get great reviews on Amazon.
Hi Ross
How long do we need to complete a cleanse? How often do we do a cleanse?
Thanks
Hi Ross
I think your site is amazing and so informative, and between yu and Anthony Robbins tapes, I am going to start making changes to my life. I am 50 now and I suffer with arthritis and other things but you both have inspired me so much. I have ordered juicers, blenders, drops, and even a wheatgrass machine lol. It’s not just for the dieting properties but for the health changes too. I may even start a blog when the stuff arrives and I am up and running. Your recipes too are great but I live in a very small village in the UK and some of the ingredients I can’t get, but I will do my best. I just wanted to let you know you are so inspiring I am so glad I came across your site. We need to know more about this in the UK!! So pleases to have made your acquaintance – thank you
Hi Christel, I’ve just come across your post, and felt that I’d like to connect with you…I’m 52 next week, and am preparing myself (mentally!!) for Ross’s 12 week alkaline diet..I know that I need to make some big changes too. I think that Ross is amazingly inspiring, and I’m excited about discovering my health potential. I just want to get my birthday stuff out of the way first!!!
I live in a small town in the UK too. Please feel free to get in touch if you think that we could give each other a bit of support! Good luck, and thanks Ross, too!!! Rachel
Hi Ross!
I am reading your blog for the past couple of days, it’s great! So much information! I have a question about Rosacea though….
I read a lot of information regarding rosacea, and lots of times I see that a cleansing is the first step to take. This seems logical to me.
But now for my question. I live in Holland and at the farmacy they have something called “7 day detox kit”. It is a kit with capsules, supplements and a manual. When I asked it was based on drinking only juices for a week, to be combined with the capsules.
Do you think this is the way to go, I have serious doubts…
Do you have a recomendation?
Thanks in advance!
Miranda from Holland
Hey Miranda,
I may be able to help you reduce the symptoms of (your) rosacea. If you are interested, email me at renatabrodzka@mail.com. Mailing in Dutch will be no problem as I am from Holland as well.
Enjoy your day!
Jeroen
Rrading your blog makes me see that I am no longer a newby. I have been a rawfoodist for 2 years and as in nature adding to my natural interest has brought me out. It was always there you see, but i tried to be conventional. I was throwing up every day for 20 years because cooked food was like poison. Now life’s easier more relaxed. I love cooking master chef recipes, hence the website.
I have been stressed last year and now its half term here (UK) i have just enough time to do a detox. I have done many, but not so relaxed as eating as a nd when. I have a good diet so just need to popout for some extra juices, soup and water tomorrow.
I will let you know how i am getting on each day. Then its back tp work for 6 weeks. I am nothing if not spontanious. I founc your site while looking for natural alkaline water sources. bye for now v-ron/ronnie
Thanks for all you’re doing—really like all the information you supply. However, I would love to see you change part of your advice in Tip #1, where you tell people to tell others they are “busy and broke,” especially the “broke” part. Who wants to be putting that out there to the Universe as a part of their “story,” whether they feel it’s true or just part of a “little white lie” to get out of social engagements?! Why not simply tell people the truth–that you’re interested in increasing your health quotient and going to be doing a cleanse and will need to forego certain social engagements? Seems like that might even inspire others to possibly do some cleansing themselves. Just a thought.
Hi Ross,
I am lovin alll the wonderful info on your site.Do you have a receipe for aliver flush and liver cleanse?

Collette
