Just this morning I have by chance stumbled onto Sol Shah’s blog. How did it catch my attention? Presumably, if you are reading this then you already know - with a very catchy headline.
The two questions that immediately sprang to mind are ‘how’ and ‘why’! Rather than misinterpret everything - I will let Sol explain:
Why?
During the final two weeks before mum passed away, she was refused any liquids in case it went into her lungs. As a family, it pained us that we couldn’t even offer her water to drink in her dying days. Her simplest requests we couldn’t even fulfil. It’s kind of ironic that all these years she ran an open house, where family and friends came and went as they wished, food and drink flowing constantly, yet in her final few days she was refused even something as simple as water.
Knowing that there are millions of people around the world who are refused the basic right of safe clean water to drink, there’s something we can certainly do about it. I intend to work with my family to raise over £10 Million (GBP) to put towards building wells and bore holes in parts of the world that desperately need safe clean drinking water.
How?
It started on 09 August 2006 when Owen Gusman found 1p at a pub in Epsom (Surrey) and handed it to me. He then offered me the opportunity to double it. If I could do something of value for him and I gave him that penny, then he would hand me 2p. Here’s how it developed…
———-Date: 09-Aug-2006
Starting Amount: £0.01
Amount Doubled To: £0.02
Who: Owen Gusman
Email Address: owengusman@yahoo.com
The request: Owen asked “How do I remove stage fright?â€
My response: “Ask not what the world needs. Ask instead what makes you come alive and go and do that. For what the world needs is people who have come aliveâ€â€”——-
I quickly realised that if I keep having my money doubled, and delivering value to contribute towards an equal exchange of energy, then I can raise over £10 Million in just 30 transactions!
And the beauty of it is - that he will end up with a whopping £10,737,418.24 in those 30 transaction. How great is that?
Seriously, Sol, you are a genius.
Already the money raised has reached a very noble £1,310.72 - with some quality help and gestures of kindness.
It kinda reminds me of a cross between Danny Wallace and Dave Gorman’s adventures, and Kyle of One Red Paperclip fame - who in just 15 transactions traded a red paperclip for a house in Phoenix.
I am going to be exceedingly keen to see how Sol gets on - and so should you. Head on over to his beautifully designed blog (v.jealous) and say hello to him!
ps. hat tip to Kavit whose blog I found Sol through
