Alkaline Recipe #20 Tom Yum Soup

by Ross on March 31, 2009

This is a very special one that I discovered on my recent trip to Thailand. I took a Thai cooking lesson and couldn’t believe how alkaline the food was - and where it wasn’t - it was so easy to make more alkaline!

Tom Yum has always been one of my favourite Thai meals, nice and spicy and refreshing at the same time. What more could you ask for.

So here we go:

Ross BridgefordAs those of you on the Alkaline Diet Course will know, I’ve just returned back home to Melbourne from my trip to Northern Thailand (and a while in Phang Nga).

I’m always open to new experiences and I’m always, always open to learning new things about health and wellness, both physical and mental and this trip certainly gave me both!

(I also had a fantastic time relaxing on beaches, eating Thai, meeting the locals and letting my hair down!)

Hi all

Just a quick one to remind you that tickets to Dr Young’s first ever UK weekend seminar (and his only live European date in 2009) go on sale tomorrow at 12 noon UK time. That’s Friday 27th, at 12:00pm UK time.

I’ll post the link to the page once it is all good to go.

Click here to download a PDF guide to the event, including ticket prices, a schedule of what will be taught and information about the venue.

I spoke to Dr Young earlier today and we’re both pretty jazzed with how it is all looking!

stacey halprinCrikey, in the last two months I’ve now actually used material from both Oprah and Dr Phil. This is pure coincidence! Don’t be fooled into thinking I just watch trashy telly all day - it’s just not true!

The fact is, whenever anything to do with dieting or weight loss is on the radio or tv it piques my interest. Not only because, like all y’all, I like a good success story, but also because I am interested to hear how different people have achieved results.

Anyway, this was the story of Stacey Halprin (here’s her book) who lost over 400lbs (that is approx over 3x me!).

alkaline diet proofAnother top scientific research journal has published findings that prove that the alkaline diet is beneficial to human health.

The article, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism states that compounds in alkaline-forming plant foods, help preserve bone and muscle mass.

The study (abstract here) was conducted by researchers at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, in Boston, Mass.

Here is the context (background/reason) and objective of the research:

Context: Protein is an essential component of muscle and bone. However, the acidic byproducts of protein metabolism may have a negative impact on the musculoskeletal system, particularly in older individuals with declining renal function.

alkaline seasoningsThis is just a quick one (I think - we’ll see when I stop writing!) about a little tweak you can make that will have a huge impact on your enjoyment of alkalising.

When you are first starting with alkalising it can be difficult. You may find recipes hard to come by, you might struggle to know what to eat and end up eating the same things over and over again through fear of going wrong, you might feel like you’re missing out on certain flavours or you might just get damn bored.
