Is carbonated water alkaline
Thanks Ross
Hello,
I just received a promotional e-mail from energise for life, nothing strange there, but I see that Spirulina is for sale via the website. In Dr Young’s PH Miracle book, spirulina and algae supplements get a proper slating, and are called scum, complete with bird droppings. Has something changed, or does the website now sell things that aren’t related to alkalising?
Many thanks,
Becky.
Is there such a thing as over alkalizing?
How can lemon juice help get rid of calcification in the kidney? In April I was told I had a 7mm stone. Now Dr saying it is a harmless calcification. I can imagine lemon juice as acid dissolving calcium but if lemon goes to alkaline in the body how does that help? I read lemon juice helped get rid of kidney stones on another site. I only have one kidney now. The other out 2 years ago with cancer. I am aged 69.
How long can it take to turn an acidic body into an alkaline body ?
Hi Bernie
That all depends on where you are starting from. However, if you undertake a 4-7 day alkaline cleanse then you will definitely start feeling the benefits and will move quickly in the right direction.
Here is my diary of an alkaline cleanse for you to read

Do you have plans to offer Dr Young’s new revised book on your website? Amazon USA / Barnes & Nobel are shipping already I believe
Hey again Bernie
Yes we do, they’re in the post now and you’ll be able to order within a few days.

In Gareth’s section – 23 June- in Qu 1 -Diabetes. Lactic Acid etc, he said at one point – “should also consider taking pHour salts (as long as you are not taking regular medication )”. I read this with concern as this is the first mention of this I have seen ,and as I do take several regular medications , please could I have a further explanation of this point and what types of medication he means.
This is the second timr I have submitted this question so would be grateful for a reply!
Hi, Will following the alkaline diet bring colour back to premature gray hair? What about premature hair loss?
Hi Ross,
I am interested in following the pH diet to loose weight & feel more energy but I am concerned that it may not be sustainable if I can’t ever have chocolate or eat my favorite fruits– oranges, berries, melons etc and then end up gaining all the weight back and some more.
I normally eat lots of greens, fruits & other sweets & low protein so the pH diet seems sensible. However, I don’t want to turn this into a yo-yo diet if I am depriving myself for good.
Can you enlight me? Thank you.
Hi.. on a machine called Scio Bio Feedback…i was diagnosed as too alkaline ! Can this be ?? I do consciously eat alkaline and have done for years now…
also i was told to eat more green veg as I dont seem to have enough of the enzyme that helps with oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange.
How can I remedy this situation? Taking chlorophyl??
ALSO ! Is it true that lemons leach ones calcium from the bones to turns their action alkaline in the stomach ??? I use lemon lots and as I am 60 I dont want to endanger my bones !
Hope you can shed some light on these things
love Ruth
Hi Ross,
Do you know for certain whether Arm & Hammer baking soda contains aluminum or other acidic anti-caking agents? There are a lot of differing opinions on the web, some say they have contacted the manufacturers who assure them there is no aluminum, some say some arm & hammer boxes have stickers with warnings the product contains aluminum. You yourself say you know microscopists who swear by Arm&Hammer. I’m confused, would you have the answer..
Thanks,
James
Hi Graham
It’s great to hear that alkalising has been serving you well and also good to hear you’re still questioning and on the hunt for knowledge.
I have to admit, I’m not a massive fan of the metabolic typing diet. However, you have to listen to your body and do what works best for you. The foods you mentioned as being ‘beneficial’ to certain metabolic types can certainly be included in your 20% acid. Remember, the aim of the alkaline diet is 80% alkaline, 20% acid.
However, with regards to the red-meat favouring types – the stomach produces hydrochloric acid on demand – depending on what you put down there – it doesn’t store it and no one person has more than any other.
Does this make sense?
Ross
Hi Sophia
It is, I guess, possible to over alkalise the body but it is incredibly hard. The body will regulate itself to keep the pH 7.365 and it is in this regulation that so much damage occurs as we are constantly putting in too much acid.
Even if we lived really alkaline, the body creates a small amount of acid in it’s normal bodily processes (this is the reason we’ve evolved to have an alkaline buffering system).
Basically, if you DID over-alkalise, your body would soon regulate your cells back to pH 7.365.
The damage of this? Well, as most of us have been over acidifying ourselves constantly for most of our life and we’re still standing, a minor over alkalisation is not too much of an issue!
I hope this helps. In short – its very, very difficult to do and easily dealt with by the body.
Ross
Hi Janet
I have absolutely no idea where the link is here between the alkaline diet and your hair. If anything, living alkaline has been shown to increase hair growth.
Can you email me some more details on ross@energiseforlife.com and I will get Gareth – our in house nutritionist – to take a look too.
Thanks
Ross
I have been on an alkalizing diet twice and I’ve felt great but both times, but after about 6 months my hair starts to fall out. Can you tell me what I can do to prevent this? Thanks, Janet
it sounds like a battery diet but hey that would a be a good metaphor for for energizes your body
Hi Ross,
Is there such a thing as over alkalizing? How much is too much?
Thanks
Hi Ross
I believe in an alkaline diet but when I did some research about a year ago I could not find one acid / alkaline chart that resembled another. Ok there is the obvious, like meat but most charts had some major differences. For example, one site said that water melon was one of the highest alkalising together with lemon. On your chart water melon is neutral. Why follow an alkaline diet that I can’t confirm is really alkaline.
I know you say it is the effect that that food has on the body, but how do you measure something like that?
Thanks & Regards
Colin
Hi Colin
It’s a common problem and a common question. You would think that it would be quite straightforward and everyone would have the same information in their charts…but alas, no.
The reason for the difference is because most food charts use the Potential Renal Acid Load scale to measure if a food is acid or alkaline (PRAL). This approach effectively measures the relative acidity or alkalinity of a food in it’s natural state. i.e. shop open a watermelon and test it.
The reason why I disagree with this approach, and why the acid alkaline food chart I have on my site is different – is because I believe we should measure what effect the food has on the body. Bananas are a good example of this. On the PRAL scale they rate as alkaline, because of their high potassium content – however, as bananas are approx. 25% sugar they actually have a highly acidifying effect on the body.
I think it is more important to know what the food does to the pH of our cells rather than know what the pH of the food is in it’s natural state.
In other words, it is not the pH of the food that matters – it is what the food does to our pH.
I hope this clears it up for you!
Ross
Hi Ross, I have always been a huge advocate of the alkalisation for health theory and it has served me extremely well. However recently I have been reading a lot about metobolic typing and how certain diets that are great for one person, are not so great, even harmful for others. As I am a blood type A, I now alkalise more than ever because due to my crop growing farmer ancestors, my digestive system has been genetically pre-determined to flourish from a vegetarian and raw food diet, after thousands of years of type A evolution my system is built for it. However I have read that those who are blood type O, are genetically pre-determined to eat meat, as their ancestry comes from a long line of hunter gatherers, therefore there stomach is armed with more stomach acid to aid digestion of a high protein meat based diet. Again after milleniums of O type evolution. In short, it is stated that type O’s actually benefit from a slightly acidic environment. Blood type A’s are very bad with dairy produce, and are much more likely to have an allergy or be lactose intolerant as I am. However type B’s do brilliantly off dairy, and are genetically pre-determined to attain there calcium from this source, again after thousands of years of milk and dairy farming evolution, there digestive systems are built for it. I’m not by any means slating the alkaline theory, it has completely transformed my life, my exhema has disapeared, my skin is vibrant, I look younger, my health and energy levels are the best they’ve ever been. Studying the acid/alkaline theory has been a God send. However after further research, I have discovered that this may not be the same for everyone. I was wondering what your thoughts were on metabolic typing? And whether you believe that alkalising is the best diet type for everyone? Warmest regards. Graham.
