How to Make Your Water Alkaline

by Ross on September 17, 2009

Ross With His Alkaline JugHi everyone

I’ve blogged about this before, but we’ve seen such innovation in the past 18 months that I feel it is time to update you all on the best, cheapest and most effective ways to make your water more alkaline.

First, I will define what I consider good quality alkaline water to be: water that has been filtered to remove impurities and with a pH of above 7.365, ideally above pH 8.

These are the two key components:

  1. Remove impurities
  2. Raise alkalinity to between pH 8-9.5

Ross & Scott from Health4NIThis week I am extremely excited to bring you my interview with Scott Brady, alkaline diet expert and personal strength and fitness coach Scott Brady. Scott is the founder of Health 4 NI and has been creating quite a buzz with his ability to get results for his clients quickly and healthily!

I have been in touch with Scott for a while now and we finally met at our Dr Young Live event back in June - and I have to say, this is one guy who clearly knows his stuff and practices what he preaches!

ph test video
Welcome to my maiden video blog! I’ve been meaning to join the multimedia-multiplatform-web-2.0-blogosphere for a long time and after dipping my toes in the water with a few video interviews (with Dr Young, Guy Cohen & blood microscopist Gareth Edwards to come next week) – I decided that this was the week I was going to kick things off. And I’ve kicked them off in style!

As part of some other work for the site this week I was forced to sit and think about my philosophy towards treats, snacking, deprivation and will and express how I’ve made the alkaline diet work for me.

The thought of giving up some of your favourite foods, drinks and social eating and drinking is really scary for us when we first commit to living alkaline - so I hope my philosophy puts you at ease!

Treating Treats as Treats

A question I often get asked (a LOT at the Dr Young Live Weekend) is:

The Energise Guide to Juicing

by Ross on July 31, 2009

green juiceI’ve recently had a few people on the Alkaline Diet Course ask me if they really need to buy a juicer to get alkaline, and every time I’ve answered a big YES with a million reasons why!

And there are a million reasons! However, to keep it simple and hard-hitting (as I like to…)

Drinking fresh juice is perhaps the most amazing gift you can give yourself!

Why? Let’s find out…

sugar cravingsEveryone gets cravings and they can sometimes feel like the most powerful urges on Earth.

When your body wants something it wants something. And when your body knows you’re not supposed to have it, it feels like the craving is ten times stronger.

I know what this is like. The craving for something sweet after lunch or dinner is the one that always used to get me. Or the lust for any food after I’d had a few beers (back in the day) used to get the better of me every time (and man, I ate some weird s**t!). For others it is that craving for chocolate that hits randomly, or the desire to hit the biscuit barrel just after 11am.

‘BUT WHAT DO I SNACK ON?’ - That is the question I get asked more than any other. Tough one. Or is it?

In my five (nearly six) years of living this alkaline lifestyle – including transitions, crashes, perfection, transitions, crashes, perfection and then the happy place I’m in now - I truly believe that one of the key ways to guarantee long-term healthy living is this:

Master the snack.

alkaline snacks

In my experience I find that most people slack off when they’re hungry. When you’re hungry and there is nothing easy, quick and healthy to grab, you’re most likely to be naughty. And then it snowballs.

Swine Flu: The Reality

by Ross on July 21, 2009

swhine fluThe whole Swine Flu thing is picking up pace again in the news, with the Daily Doom Mail, in particular, running with a series of quite alarmist, but paper-selling ’stories’.

I have two issues with Swine Flu:

strong bonesOsteoporosis and bone weakness effects one in three women and 1 in 12 men over the age of 50. In total, osteoporosis causes 310,000 fractures in the UK every year. This is a dramatic statistic and one that actually surprised me. That is really high.

With this being such a serious issue you would wonder why the most commonly given advice by Doctors, Hospitals, our Government & the media is to consume more dairy.

This is simply stupid, so let me make this point clearly:

Dairy weakens bones.

Diary of an Alkaline Cleanse

by Ross on July 7, 2009

Cleanse Breakfast!Every now and then I really believe in doing a mini-cleanse, a 2-3 day cleanse to give your body a real boost, a flood of nutrients and hydration to flush out toxins, melt away fat and experience an unbelievable energy surge (that lasts). In fact, all of these benefits last because they are based on a foundation of nutritional abundance rather than restriction or starvation. This cleanse is not about consuming only one thing, or (lemon and syrup) water. It is definitely not a fast. It is about giving your body more. More vitamins, more minerals, more nutrients, more hydration, more antioxidants, more healthy fats, more of everything.
