It always frustrates me when I see people struggling with the alkaline diet because I know that most people have been led to believe it is harder than it really is, and that you have to try and be perfect right from day one.

This is a great summer soup that is very healthy, and another great alkaline recipe. I absolutely LOVE gazpacho and gorge myself on it every time we go to Mallorca or the Spanish mainland (the best I’ve found is in Palma though
The combination of ingredents gives you all the punch you’d expect from a gazpacho and the best thing is – this favourite of mine is totally alkaline. Gazpacho is an alkaline recipe! I love it when a plan comes together…
I’ve tried a few home made Gazpacho recipes and this one is a belter. It’s from our friend Sari Swig at cookalkaline.com

I’m a big fan of the soba noodle. They’re not super-alkaline, but to have as part of your 20% acid-forming foods on your plate these are SO much better than straight pasta.
Firstly, they’re not made from durum wheat (like normal high-GI pasta) they’re made from buckwheat, which is far closer to the neutral end of the acid/alkaline scale.
Because of this they’re low GI, high in protein and high in fibre, making you feel satiated for longer and less likely to snack.
Combined with fresh, raw pesto, uncooked oil and pine nuts, this meal is a great transition recipe.

Ohhhh much maligned by the under-8 age bracket and often blamed for antisocial odour, the mighty Brussels Sprout is actually one of my favourite. I’m still unsure whether it is Brussel Sprouts or Brussels (like it belongs to the Belgian metropolis) – but either way its one nutritious cruciferous.
Containing sulforaphane, a chemical believed to have potent anti-cancer properties, Brussels sprouts and other brassicas (such as broccoli, the 2nd most maligned vegetable in that Under-8 category) are also a source of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical which boosts DNA repair in cells and appears to block the growth of cancer cells.

This one is a WINNER! Quinoa was my personal big discovery last year – and now I can’t get enough!
Quinoa is known for being a complete protein and perfect of course, for vegetarians/vegans. It is also a good source of the very alkaline mineral – magnesium. Combine this with Sweet potato which is much more alkaline than normal potato (and much more delicious) while also being an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and a good blood sugar regulator. All these are packed with nutrients and definitely something to try.
