Swine Flu: The Reality

by Ross on July 21, 2009

swhine fluThe whole Swine Flu thing is picking up pace again in the news, with the Daily Doom Mail, in particular, running with a series of quite alarmist, but paper-selling ’stories’.

I have two issues with Swine Flu:

EMF danger - lotsa wiresEvery day we are surrounded by silent killers. In our lounge, in our kitchen and in our bedroom. In our pocket and on our lap.

Every single electrical appliance in our lives is exposing our body to harmful electromagnetic radiation. And even those that we don’t have control over such as power lines, wiring in buildings, and a whole heap of other technologies such as wireless internet that are so prevalent in our modern lives are all potentially harmful to our health.

stacey halprinCrikey, in the last two months I’ve now actually used material from both Oprah and Dr Phil. This is pure coincidence! Don’t be fooled into thinking I just watch trashy telly all day - it’s just not true!

The fact is, whenever anything to do with dieting or weight loss is on the radio or tv it piques my interest. Not only because, like all y’all, I like a good success story, but also because I am interested to hear how different people have achieved results.

Anyway, this was the story of Stacey Halprin (here’s her book) who lost over 400lbs (that is approx over 3x me!).

lovely antioxidantsEverybody has heard of antioxidants, everybody knows that are good for them and it feels like every food and drink product under the sun claims to have them.

But what are antioxidants and why are they so important? Oh, and what is the easiest, and best way to make sure we get enough!

Antioxidants: The Basics

Antioxidants literally do what they say on the tin, they prevent oxidation reactions in the body. They are anti-oxidising.

natural healthI have a question for you.

As a species (yes, us humans) we understand more about the human body than ever, and we understand more about how to cure disease and illness than ever - so why is it that there are more people than at any other time in history suffering from degenerative diseases?

There is no doubt about it - all data points to the fact that there is a clear correlation between the rise in degenerative disease (cancer, heart disease, diabetes etc.) and our advancement as a race. It seems that the more advances we make, as a species, the more ill we become. The more we understand about how to cure illness and disease, the less we seem to know about how to prevent it. The more time goes on, the sicker we get.

My Favourite Drink of the Week

by Ross on June 17, 2007

Redush with lemon teaI just can’t get enough! Its getting a bit more chilly here in Sydney now as winter kicks in so I’m turning back to warming drinks and this is definitely my favourite:

Redbush (Rooibos) tea with lemon.

So simple, but so lovely too.

Just thought I’d share!

Picture the scenario: you’ve been thinking about this moment for weeks (possibly months, possibly years) and now it has actually arrived. You can’t believe it is happening! The most perfect thing in the world is about to kiss you…but just as your lips are about to touch there is a pause….and then a flinch.

And then a grimace.

And then you realise…

…you stink.

OK, so there are no literary awards up for grabs and even if there were, I ain’t winning any for that little foray into the world of romantic prose. But you catch my minty fresh drift. Every now and then your breath will stink. That’s a fact.

Diets CAN work!I’ve just read yet another article telling me that diets don’t work. This troubles me.

Hundreds of millions of people have the desire to change their body, or change the way they feel about their body every year. And hundreds of millions of people do something about it. Often they do something about it more than once.

So what exactly is it that troubles me?

The false situation of helplessness that this creates

The Lowdown on MSG

by Ross on March 11, 2007

noodlesMSG, or monosodium glutamate, is probably one of the singlemost blamed ingredients of all time. Alongside yeast, dairy and gluten it is often the reason we give for our feelings of illness and lethargy after eating a meal (*cough* takeaway) and many of us now actively seek to avoid it at all costs.

Technically speaking, MSG is the sodium salt of the amino acid L-glutamic. In practice it is used as a potent flavour enhancer which was first used in Japan over a thousand years ago. While it is generally seen as an additive (and therefore unnatural), glutamate is also found in the proteins of meat, vegetables, poultry and milk.

African Drumming for Health!

by Ross on February 26, 2007

philippe lincyHello! Sorry there have not been more posts of late, but here I am again to try and impart some words of wisdom/kill five minutes of your day…

So anyway, this is a bit of an experiential post again (much like the jet lag one) in that I’m not actually making any science-based claims but more letting you know about something I have done which has improved my health. I quite like these posts. They’re a bit more real and fun - but rest assured, once I’ve got a couple of big projects out of the way with the site I will get back to more how-to/resource type posts as I know they’re probably more useful.

How I Escaped Jet Lag - and How You Can Too!

by Ross on February 11, 2007

get to the beach, have no jet lag!As some of you may or may not know, I’ve just had a 2 week quick trip back to the UK to head into Energise HQ and work with Callum to plan our year ahead (very exciting). Now, normally I suffer jet lag pretty badly - lots of passing out at 5pm and waking up bright and breezy at 4am. Not good. Especially when you have travelled to work AND socialise.
