Affecting at least 1 in 20 people, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a specific type of depression that occurs generally during the dark winter months. Caused by a lack of natural light, SAD is most prevalent during the October to February period in countries such as the UK where there is far fewer hours of daylight and a heavy reliance upon artificial lighting (i.e. those that live the furthest away from the equator).
Experts believe that this lack of light is overwhelmingly the primary cause of SAD as the amount of sunlight that hits our eyes directly affects the levels of certain chemicals and hormones in our brain.

The holidays are a wonderful time. Lots of socialising, lots of merriment, lots of cheer and, of course, lots of nice food and drink! But in ithe ney year, I predict that at least 8 out of 10 of us are going to be looking into a detox, or diet to kickstart a new healthy lifestyle.
But once the hangover has gone - what exactly will this detox mean for you?
Depending on what you read, how determined you are (and how guilty you feel!), you could be embarking on one of a million different detox programs.

Hello again. I have decided to make this weeks THDBR a bit different. Not for any particular reason, but just because…well…variety is the spice of life. Or something to that effect.
Anyway, I have recently been a little more active over at Steve Pavlina’s forums and I belatedly ran across this thread where forum members post about their own blog. I really loved this thread because a) it is another startling reminder of how many of us are now blogging our thoughts and trying to help others and improve ourselves through blogging. I LOVE that this communication tool has become SO accessible! And b) because it shows that a bit of self-promotion in a forum can be a good thing - so many forums are ban-happy whenever people try to promote their own work and it drives me nuts.

Another double header. Again. No excuses this time. I’m just going to make up for it by making this a monster-link-a-thon:
- Susan @ fatfreevegan has posted a fantabulous green food recipe, it is quick, easy, cheap and delicious. Go try it - Quck & Delicious Collards
- Amit of Unlimited Choice fame has posted an excellent guide to Anchoring - an NLP technique that I find invaluable.
- Alvin posts about cats at the Life Coaches Blog. Well, its not just about cats - but about getting totally involved in the moment - Alvin calls it Cat Zen.

When you first start out on a new healthy lifestyle or diet you’re a bag of energy and motivation. But it’s often not long before things either slowly slip back to how they were, or come screeching to a very sudden and depressing halt. Why is that? And more importantly, how can we capture that early strength and motivation to ensure that we never fail again? It is possible, so lets find out how…

Hi all
Just a quick update - there are a couple of cool sites I found this week that I wanted to share:
- PhysioRoom.com - I found this site through the excellent Volzy.com, which is a personal site by Fulham utility man Moritz Volz (seriously, the most funny, down-to-earth footballer ever - you should def check this out too). Physio Room is an outstanding resource for anyone who is into sports, health and fitness. It has a great shop alongside a myriad of resources, articles, interviews and guides relating to injury prevention and cure. A hyper-resource.

They are one of the most irritating things to happen and they usually occur just in time for that date, interview, night out or worse still - wedding day!
You feel that tingle…you try to remember the advert with the chick and her motorcycle helmet…but you know it is too late. You are destined to the next seven days of cold-sore-sulking!
But fear not! While cold sores cannot be cured, per se, there are a few simple steps you can take to dramatically reduce the likelihood of cold sores paying you a visit in the future:

OK, so this is going to be a fairly quick post - but this is something that is pretty cool that I thought you all might like to have a play around on.
The site Real Age Inc. is great fun. Basically, at the very basic level you can sign on, answer a load of basic questions and it gives you what your ‘real age’ is. Some examples of questions are:
- On a typical day, about how many hours do you sleep?
- What is your resting heart rate?
- Have you EVER had asthma?

OK - so you may or may not know that Darren Rowse of ProBlogger has organised another group writing project. Darren gets quadzillions of visitors every day and he uses this popularity to create some good in the world: namely the group writing project.
Every project invites all of ProBlogger’s readers to submit their posts (on a different subject each time) to him and he publishes links to them all as a kinda hub.
It is great for several reasons, but the main one is that it gives exposure to hundreds and hundreds of blogs and encourages us all to network, browse and learn!

According to the Durex World Sex Survey - globally we are having sex:
- 103 times per year, or
- 1.98 times per week, or
- 0.28 times per day, or
- 0.012 times an hour, or
- 0.00019 times per minute!
COME ON PEOPLE! We can do better than that!
Because I am so socially conscious and to help this global cause, I have highlighted a few foods here that are reknowned for helping boost the libido.
