As winter rapidly approaches this transitional alkaline diet breakfast is warming, filling and absolutely packed with nutrients.
I absolutely LOVE quinoa. It is a complete protein, containing the full amino acid range and is rich in the alkaline minerals manganese, magnesium and iron whilst containing heaps of vitamin b2 and fibre.
It is quick and easy to cook, rather tasty (very subtle flavour) and gives you a great energetic start to the day. And rather brilliantly, the combination of complex carbs, fibre and protein means that quinoa will leave you with heaps of sustained energy and you will feel full right up until lunch.

The alkaline diet is focused around eating alkaline foods and avoiding acid foods. So wouldn’t it make sense to know what the most alkaline food is? Of course, there are many contenders, but if you make sure you eat a lot of the most alkaline food then you will rapidly start to experience the wonderful benefits of the alkaline diet.
How we know that foods are alkaline?
There are two ways to determine whether a food is acid or alkaline. A right way and a wrong way! The reason I say this is because one method tests the alkalinity or acidity of the food before it is eaten whereas the other measures whether the food is acid-forming or alkaline-forming in the body and I am much more interested in the latter.

Don’t freak out. I know. The recipe says PASTA. Whaaaat? Listen, you have to remember two important things if you are going to successfully live the alkaline diet:
- The alkaline diet means aiming for 70-80% alkaline and 20-30% acid – not 100% alkaline. So you can include some items such as pastas, rices etc in your 20% acid, it makes things way easier.

Does your diet contain sufficient levels of healthy and alkaline foods which are the primary source of alkaline minerals?
If not, then your body is likely to be too acidic, which is predominantly caused by a typical Western lifestyle of high stress levels, low levels of exercise and for most, an unhealthy and acidic diet.
An overly acidic diet and lifestyle is one of the core causes for diseases and illnesses common in our Western world such as high blood pressure, high number of strokes, diabetes, cancer, high obesity levels, low energy levels, fatigue, poor digestion and inflammations just to name a few.

What a claim to make! But I make it with absolute conviction and certainty because I am getting emails every day from people on our Alkaline Diet Course who are finding their heartburn (and IBS, dry skin, weight problems, fatigue etc) clearing up within a week to ten days.
This is absolutely real. And it is just through dietary change. By simply applying the principles of the alkaline diet, acid reflux/heartburn is disappearing.
I have never experienced anything even close to heartburn since eating and living this way, but I had also never really examined the link between the alkaline diet and heartburn relief. It is really quite obvious.
