<h2>Why Are Green Drinks So Healthy For Us?</h2>
<p><em>“I’d like to do that alkalising diet, but I’d just be hungry all the time….There wouldn’t be enough variety or flavour.”</em></p>
<p>It doesn’t matter how much the more experienced alkaliser tries to re-assure someone who is new on the block that this can be the most tasty, varied way of eating that they are ever likely to come across, the fear of feeling empty can often be a chasm that looks un-crossable to some explorers.</p>
<p>So, faced with that seemingly un-crossable ravine between you and your happy smiling friends (!) over in alkaline land, what can be done to bridge the famine gorge? Eating plenty of avocados and sprouted beans and seeds can help get the foundation stones in place. Finding an alternative to the energy bar or sandwich when you are feeling really hungry and in a hurry can, however seem more difficult.</p>
<p>I’d have to say that I used to be something of a compulsive eater. I kind of got away with it, because I didn’t tend to put on weight. It was however expensive and time consuming spending so much time in the kitchen. I have to say that it is a mild source of amazement to me that I now usually only have two (or even sometimes one) meals a day.</p>
<p>A huge part of that transition started, when instead of snacking on bread, biscuits or even oatcakes or rice cakes, I started mixing myself a bottle of filtered (or <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/alkaline-water/alkaline-water-ionizers.html">ionised</a>) water with <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">powdered green plant food</a>. When you’re wedded to a calorie based model of nutrition, the thought that some powdered beetroot tops, dandelion and alfalfa leaf could take away your hunger just as effectively as a cereal bar, seems …. mad! In reality, the blood building, green plant foods, effectively energise you, almost immediately. </p>
<p>I wouldn’t recommend living on <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">green powder </a>alone. It’s good to get some of the real fresh stuff in your diet as well. If, however, you either find the thought of juicing or eating greens too much or you want to supplement the fresh greens in your diet with highly nutritious fast food, a high quality green powder (such as <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks/item--perfectlyhealthy-Mega-Greens-Powder-227g-1-2Ib--MEGA_GREENS.html">perfectlyhealthy Mega Greens</a>) is pretty much as good as it gets.</p>
<p><u><b>In The Mix:</b></u> </p>

<p>If you would like to find a drink which provides your body with all the nutrients, minerals and vitamins it needs, because of convenience reasons or because you find it difficult to eat enough vegetables, then you do not have to look any further: <u>the green drink is what you want!</u></p>
<h2><b>Gareth&#8217;s Top Reasons for Using Green Drinks!</b></h2>
<p>When Dr. Young first combined a green powder with drops to raise the pH, he called it the cornerstone pack. Powdered green vegetables, grasses and herbs combined with pure water and negatively charged mineral salts was and still is the foundation supplement. This is what he felt every body should be taking and I recommend it to all my clients.</p>
<p><u><b>If You Can’t Eat Your Greens …….</b></u></p>
<p><b>Drink them!</b> Even if you are eating, juicing or blending plenty of green vegetables and grasses ….. drink green powder too. The un-controversial truth, is that green plant foods are really good for us and that we really can’t have too much of them. They are low in sugar, high in nutrients and very importantly, loaded with chlorophyll. This plant made molecule, used to harvest the sun’s energy, is fantastic for the health of our digestive tracts and essential for building healthy red blood cells. </p>
<p>You can consume huge quantities by juicing, blending and eating fresh greens. This is always going to be preferable to having dried versions. If someone is really unwell I would definitely want them to do this, but they can additionally supplement with dried powders mixed with water. </p>
<p><u><b>Life in the Fast Lane</b></u></p>
<p>The reality of 21st Century life is however that the time and planning required to buy wash and prepare greens may put it lower on your priority list than you would like. Drinking <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">green powder </a>and <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/cat--pH-Drops-and-Capsules--PH_DROPS.html">pH drops </a>mixed with water will be better for you than eating just about any other processed food option that exists. </p>
<p>It can be easy to convince yourself that a muesli bar or vitamin drink is good for you, when you are hungry or thirsty and in a rush. <p><u><b>Absorbability</b></u></p>

If these foods are going to do anything other than pass straight through you, you need to either juice them or spend a lot of time at the table leisurely chewing them, while chatting about which way you might vote at the upcoming elections (for UK readers!). </p>
<p>By making the greens into a powder you can nourish yourself in the same way that you would with food, but quicker. This means that drinking your greens and pH drops can be great for helping to overcome cravings for sweet foods or just plain hunger. While that makes the mixture great for helping with losing unwanted pounds, it’s also great for giving you super healthy and absorbable nutrition build healthy blood and healthy body mass (i.e. put on weight, if you feel that you are too skinny.)  </p>
<p><u><b>The Roots of Health</b></u></p>
<p>The acronym <b>C.O.W.S.</b> can be used to describe the nutrients that are essential to our existence. <p>Drinking <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">powdered greens </a>and <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/cat--pH-Drops-and-Capsules--PH_DROPS.html">pH drops</a> in alkaline water, provides us with three of these essential pillars of healthy body tissue and fluids. (The pH drops are mineral salts).</p>
<p><u><b>A Bag of Salty Water</b></u></p>
<p>60% of us is water, but the chemistry of that water is changing all the time. As the metabolic reactions that keep us alive take place in our bodies the acidic by-products will start to accumulate in our body fluids. Rather like changing the oil in a racing car, we need to change our body fluids regularly, in order to maintain health. Doing that with salt free acidic liquids like tea, coffee, alcohol or fruit juice is likely to be counter-productive. </p>
<p>Some water filtration methods can also produce slightly acidic water and some mineral waters have a pH below 7. Adding negatively charged minerals in the form of pH drops to fluids will make them more alkaline.</p>
<p>The best way to promote and maintain health is to drink relatively large amounts of water with a pH of 7 or higher. It is however important to remember that in doing this you can “wash out” minerals along with acids. <p>In this article we will particularly look at internal factors causing this and hence it is <b>very important to look at the acid/alkaline state of our body,</b> as this is very crucial in getting to the bottom of the <b>internal factors causing low-energy levels and fatigue.</b> Generally we can say that our body always strives to maintain an acid/alkaline balance in order for our body functions to work efficiently and prevent us from disease. </p>
<p>All of our body’s internal mechanisms such as circulation, digestion and even breathing are constantly working hard in keeping this balance. <b>If our body gets out of balance, caused by an over acidification of our tissues and body fluids, we are laying the grounds for illnesses and diseases.</b> Common symptoms are flu and colds, headaches, skin problems and allergies.</p>
<p>These syndromes increase and appear more frequently the longer our body is in such an unbalanced state. The reason for this is that our body starts to pull alkaline minerals out of our tissues in order to compensate for this imbalance. In the worst case our blood cannot balance the acid overload anymore and hence excess acid is dumped into our tissues. Our immune system must therefore neutralise what it can and getting rid of everything else. </p>
<p>Dr Robert Young, the alkaline diet expert, calls this “getting rid of” acid from the tissues and transporting them right back into the blood a vicious cycle, as in such an instance our body needs to draw even more alkaline minerals out of our tissues stressing our organs and bodily functions. This weakens the body’s ability to produce enzymes, hormones and various other chemical components, which are essential for organ activity and cell activity. </p>

<p><b>The Magic Key to Weight Loss and Increased Health</b></p>
<p><em>I’ve been alkalising and …… I’ve put on weight</em>. This true statement raises several interesting points, but fortunately is not the case for the majority of clients who seek my advice, wanting to lose weight. It is fairly rare that somebody comes to see me, with weight loss being their only health goal. In reality excess weight is usually associated with other health challenges of fatigue, elevated markers of risk for cardio-vascular disease (e.g. cholesterol) or other concerns.</p>
<p>When you want to lose weight, the reality is that you really want to do is get more healthy. <b>Following a diet, exercise and hydration regime based on alkalising is rapidly proving to be one of the most effective ways of improving your health and achieving a healthy weight – permanently!</b></p>
<p><u><b>Too Heavy or …. Too Thin!</b></u></p>
<p>I’ve had many clients who have been delighted at the apparent ease with which they have lost weight when following an alkaline diet, hydration and exercise programme, quite often where other regimes have proved unsuccessful. </p>
<p>The important distinction to make however is, that a programme based around alkalinity and living foods should not only help you to lose weight, but also build health. You are not aiming to restrict calories or deprive yourself. It is about re-balancing your pH and re-energising your body.</p>
<p><u><b>Why Alkalise?</b></u></p>
<p>Weight gain is one of the ways that bodies can “adapt” to a build up of excess acidity. We are producing acids all the time just by existing and if additionally we start eating and drinking acid forming foods and drinks our body’s ability to adapt can become overloaded. </p>
<p>When the acids can’t get out some people’s body’s start to warehouse them in fatty tissue, while in other people’s case they actually start to eat into the body and “burn it up”, making them too thin.</p>
<p><u><b>The Magic Key to Weight Loss and Increased Health:</b></u></p>
<p>When one listens closely to testimonials from people who have <b>succeeded in shedding unwanted pounds</b>, through alkalising, a common theme <b>is the dramatic (I repeat ….!) increase of their intake of green plant foods.</b> Spinach, kale, chard, parsley, watercress, cucumbers, wheatgrass and even the green leaves that grow on the top of beetroot, lie at the heart of rebuilding your health (ergo: loosing unwanted kilos / rebuilding an undernourished body). </p>
<p><u>These plant foods have a plethora of weight normalising qualities:</u></p>
<p>1. <b>They are low in sugar.</b> (Stage 1 of any weight loss / health building programme – reduce your sugar intake).</p>
<p>2. <b>They are high in nutrients.</b> (They are high in vitamins and minerals essential to the functioning of a healthy and energised body)</p>
<p>3. <b>When raw they have a high level of electrons or negative (alkalising) charge.</b> (This quality can facilitate energetic “flow” within your body.) </p>
<p>4. <b>They contain high amounts of magnesium.</b> (Essential to make your heart pump and for elimination of unwanted matter through … the back door) </p>
<p>5. <b>They are packed with chlorophyll.</b> (The essential building block for healthy red blood cells – your health / weight loss “currency”)</p>
<p>6. <b>They contain high levels of fibre.</b> (Weight loss / health gain is as much about shifting unwanted matter out of your body as it is what you put in. (Remember that other sources of fibre such as bran and apples can be acidifying.)</p>

<p><u><b>But Vegetables are Hard to Buy / Prepare / Store. I don’t like Green Vegetables. How Can I Eat the Quantity Required?</b></u></p>
<p>If you have ever had any of these thoughts (and even if you haven’t!), put an order in for <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">green powder</a> and <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/cat--pH-Drops-and-Capsules--PH_DROPS.html">drops</a> (or start drinking the ones that are lingering in your cupboard!). <p>Many people who find themselves carrying a pound or two more than they would like, have an additional challenge. They actually lack the energy to get up and do much about it. Drinking or eating your <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">greens</a> and other nutrient dense plant foods along with alkaline fluids, <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/omega-oils.html">healthy fats </a>and <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/alkaline-minerals-salts.html">salt</a> should help you to start feeling like you want to get up and start running around or at least moving more. Actively choosing public transport (for example) is better for you and better for the planet.</p>
<p><u><b>Winter Olympics:</b></u> </p>
<p>Exercising more in the Northern hemisphere at this time of year, can be a tough call if you don’t aspire to being the next Amy Williams (1st British individual gold medal since the Stone Age at the Winter Olympics). </p>
<p>Some people recommend <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/equipment/rebounders.html">re-bounding</a>. Apparently you can get a lot more out of short periods than with other forms of exercise. <p><u><b>Should you Follow an Alkalising Regime if you Feel that you are Underweight?</b></u> </p>

<p>In my own case I dropped quite a lot of weight when I started alkalising. I have put on three kilos in recent months even though I’m on a (mainly!) alkaline diet. Before you start visualising a very large person, I’m still well within the healthy range for body mass index (BMI).</p>

<p>If you have increased your intake of alkaline green foods, you are drinking your <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/green-drinks.html">greens</a> and <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Alkalising-Supplements--ALKALISING_SUPPLEMENTS/cat--pH-Drops-and-Capsules--PH_DROPS.html">pH drops</a>, exercising more and still don’t seem to be getting the results you want here are some other factors to consider.</p>
<ul>

<li><b>Look at other areas of your life.</b> Do you have a sense of purpose? Do you really enjoy your job?</li>
<li><b>Are you regularly taking any medication including oral contraceptives or have a hormone releasing coil fitted?</b> Almost all medications have an acidifying effect on the body. Discussing possibilities for reducing your dose, maybe even stopping with a qualified physician could be a way forward. (You should consult your GP before doing this).</li>
<li><b>Consider using clay (such as <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/item--Young-pHorever-Terra-pHirma-Montmorillonite-Clay-454g--PHMIRACLECLAY.html">Young pHorever Terra pHirma Montmorillonite Clay</a>)to help draw acids from your body.</b> Mix it with psyllium (such as Ispaghula Husk) if you experience any constipation.</li>
</ul>
<p><u><b>Remember:</b></u></p>
<p>As acids are mobilised from body tissue, you may experience pain and digestive upset. <p>So …. You’ve logged on to this website called <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com">Energise for Life</a>. You might have ordered some products, but maybe your daily energy level isn’t where you would like it to be ….. yet! Maybe that skin condition is better but still not fully disappeared or maybe your aches and pains have diminished, but your still not itching to start marathon training(!?).</p>
<p>When people seek nutritional advice from me and I show them their blood, they are often staggered at some of the forms and shapes they see and the stickiness of their red blood cells. Building healthy blood really is the cornerstone of feeling energetic and healthy. </p>
<p>There are several reasons for this:</p>
<ul>
<li>Red blood cells are the “stem cells” from which all other parts of your body are made: Our bodies are in a constant state of flux. Body parts are constantly being broken down and regenerated. Dr. Young has observed that red blood cells can turn into rod bacteria. Given the right environment they will also turn into healthy liver cells or the cells that line your digestive tract. </li>
<li>Red blood cells are like an energy currency in your body: As well as making you, red blood cells perform the vital task of delivering oxygen to your body cells and removing carbon dioxide (the exhaust from your body’s energy factory). If you have a low number or they are poorly formed then they are going to be less efficient. These microscopic cells really are your health wealth.</li>

<h2>How to go about making healthy blood and feel “energised”:</h2>
<p>Research and my clinical experience have shown that you can increase the number and quality of red blood cells present in your blood by following a <strong>diet high in chlorophyll rich foods and drinks</strong>. </p>
<p>Foods that contain high levels of chlorophyll are some of the most alkalising too.</p>
<p>Chlorophyll is the green pigment in plant foods that “harvests” the sun’s energy. Its chemical structure is virtually identical to haemoglobin (the principal protein in red blood cells). This means that increasing consumption leaves less work for your body’s laboratory to make red blood cells.</p>
<p><em><strong>How to dramatically increase your intake of chlorophyll:</strong></em></p>
<li><strong>Greens &#038; drops:  </strong>Drink two to four litres of alkaline water mixed with <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Green-Powder--GREEN_POWDER.html">powdered green vegetables and grasses</a> and drops of alkaline mineral salts every day (build up slowly if you are new to this). Those that contain only organic vegetables, grasses, herbs and minerals are preferable.<br />
Add liquid chlorophyll (e.g. ChloropHeal) to green drinks, juices, smoothies and alkaline water. <li><strong>Make Green Juices: </strong>A freshly made green vegetable juice is the nearest thing to nutritional gold that I can think of. How many are you having a week? In order to keep making them you need a juice machine that’s easy to use and to clean. The <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/item--Oscar-VitalMax-Juicer-in-Black-EU-PLUG--OSCARBLKEU.html">Oscar Vital Mix</a> is my clear favourite. The <a href="http://www.energiseforlife.com/cat--Centrifugal-Juicers--CENT.html">Matsone</a> comes a close second.
<p>If you really want to up the anti, grow and juice wheatgrass. You can get kits from Energise. You will need a juice machine with an auger (like the Vital Mix or the Matstone) to do this. </li>
<li><strong>Eat more dark green leafy vegetables:</strong> The darker green the better. Some patients tell me that they are eating lots of lettuce. It really needs to be more Christmas Tree coloured than that. <a href="http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/knowhow/glossary/cavelo-nero/">Cavelo Nero</a> is great if you can get it. Chop it up small and season with olive oil lemon juice salt and black pepper. Best eaten raw.  Spinach, lettuce etc. are also great choices.</li>
<p>Quite often we think that we are eating and drinking healthily by society’s normal standards, but aren’t getting the health results we want. Here’s a way to take powerful action. Get on to it today!</p>

I like to have a juiced green drink at least once a day as I know then that no matter what else happens, I will have had at least my minimum veg servings for the day.  </p>
<p>And when I&#8217;m talking green drinks, this is how leafy green I&#8217;m talkin&#8217;!  I&#8217;ve set a standard here, the bar has been raised!  So how green is your green drink?!</p>
<p>To make it this glass-melting-ly green I used:</p>
<p>Two big handfuls of spinach<br />
3 sticks of celery<br />
One little gem lettuce<br />
Half a green pepper (capsicum)<br />
Half a cucumber<br />
A handful of alfalfa sprouts<br />
