Alkaline Salad WrapsThese wraps are GENIUS! People often tell me how hard it is to find sprouted wraps in the UK (in the USA you can find them at Alvarado Street Bakery – they might even ship to the UK…) so these wraps are the perfect, alkaline answer!

They are perfect for a healthy lunch if you are on the go or a quick alkaline snack in between.

I really like normal wraps, but then thought – I also love San Choy Bow…hmmm…I have an idea here – how great and more alkaline it would be if you swapped out the bread wraps with something more alkaline and healthy … lettuce of course!

Charred Artichokes with Lemon Oil DipThis is a very light and alkalising recipe ideal for these warmer days using charred artichokes as the core ingredient. The sharp citrus dressing goes very well with them.

I have always wanted to find more recipes using artichokes, as they are one of these types of vegetables which are often underused, as the general perception seems to be that they are hard to prepare. This is an easy to follow recipe, which brings out the delicious taste of this healthy vegetable.

Roast Garlic and Spinach SaladIf I would have to name two of my favourite vegetables then spinach and garlic would be on top of that list!

This salad contains both spinach and roast garlic, which are both packed with nutrients and are highly alkalising. Spinach is such a versatile vegetable as it can be fried, quickly boiled or steamed.

When spinach is used fresh, like in this salad, it is extremely rich in antioxidants and a great source of vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin K, vitamin C, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, zinc just to name a few. As the list could go on you can call spinach a real superfood!

Lemon and Asparagus SoupI cannot believe it, but it has suddenly become so cold here in the UK, which is why I absolutely love my warming soups again now.

This is one of those soups, which I increasingly crave the more I eat it. The main ingredient is asparagus, which is alkaline and packed with healthy nutrients. Asparagus has been used for centuries as a vegetable and medicine.

It is a great source of magnesium, calcium, zinc, vitamin B6 and rich in vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin E, thiamin, riboflavin, rutin, niacin, folic acid, iron, phosphorus, potassium, copper, manganese and selenium.

Lamb Lettuce Alkaline Salad with Walnuts and AvocadoI have just got back from a holiday to Corsica and discovered a delicious salad there, which contains my favourite type of salad which is lamb’s lettuce, a highly alkalising avocado (see whfoods info on avocado here – fantastico) and a handful of crunchy walnuts.

Lamb’s lettuce is extremely healthy and has many nutrients, including three times as much vitamin C as lettuce, beta-carotene, B6, B9, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids. You will already know how nutritious and alkaline avocados are, as they are very rich in potassium, B vitamins, vitamin E and K. Avocados are also known to promote healthy skin and hair. Some people use them for facial masks, however they are most beneficial when eaten.

Green Juices Recipe by Gareth Edwards

by Ross on May 5, 2010

Gareth's green juiceThis is a delicious and ultra healthy green juice recipe from Gareth Edwards, our Dr Young trained blood analyst and highly qualified nutritionist.

The best vegetables to juice are the low glaecemic, greens. Cucumber and celery yield high quantities of liquid, while chard, kale, watercress, spring greens and spinach are more concentrated.

In case this sounds challenging in the flavour department, adding lemon juice makes it all highly palatable (usually!).

Gareth’s Green Juice

Ingredients

15-20 cm organic cucumber
3 sticks organic celery
6 leaves of organic chard
½ squeezed organic (un-waxed) lemon – juiced separately on a citrus squeezer and added afterwards.
